Events and social activities

The Social Committee organises a wide range of social activities throughout the year, both at St Mary's and further afield.

We've been on a few pilgrimages in our time and generally enjoy getting together to have fun. Come and join us!

Coffee After Church

Coffee, biscuits and juice are served after every Sunday 10am service in the Church Centre where members of the congregation can meet and chat.

Teams of volunteers take it in turns to lay out the biscuits (and, sometimes, cakes!), prepare and serve the refreshments, clear away and lock-up afterwards.

This used to be called 'Parish Breakfast' and you may still hear people refer to this social gathering as such.

The kitchen is well stocked and even has a super-fast dishwasher to keep on top of the washing up! More volunteers are always needed!

Once a year we hold the Gramble - people who are less mobile are taken out for a picnic at a local beauty spot - weather permitting!

Meet For Tea

Some of our older parishioners enjoy meeting on the first Thursday of each month for a talk, tea and a chat at various venues.

We provide a 'pick up' service and always need more people to volunteer to help as drivers.

We also welcome offers of hospitality so please get in touch if you would like to host this popular social activity.

The Motley Crew drama group

From time to time, we put on pantomimes and other dramatic productions - oh yes we do!!!

These usually involve lots of people of all ages and are always good fun, both to rehearse and perform.

Sunday Lunch Club

For the older members of our community we hold a Lunch Club on the second Sunday of every month (except August) in the Church Centre, usually starting at 1.00pm.

A two-course meal with a glass of wine followed by tea or coffee is provided plus delightful company. A charge of £4 is made to cover costs.

New members are always welcome including those who are willing to help with the catering. Help from members of the congregation in providing dishes on an adhoc basis is also greatly appreciated.

If you are interested please contact either Gill Gowing, Maxine Plaxman or the Church Office. Invitations are sent out twice a year with the dates and times and include any variation from the normal pattern.

A Communion Service is held at 12.15pm on Lunch Club Sundays and many members find it convenient to attend this Service and then make their way to the Church Centre for lunch.

The Teapot Club
A drop-in social activity at 2.00pm on the third Wednesday of each month. Everyone is welcome to pop in to the church, have a cup of tea and a chat with friends, old and new. No need to book.
Threads For Change

Sewers, knitters, crocheters and other craftspeople are welcome to join this group. We use our skills to make items that change the lives of people locally and across the world.
