We look forward to seeing you at St Mary's, Rickmansworth this Christmas

You are warmly invited to join us at St Mary's for our seasonal activities and services at this special time of the church year. As Christians we are encouraged to think more deeply about our faith and how we can become closer to God and live our lives as He, through Jesus, showed us.

Wherever you spend Christmas and the new year, may it be a time of happiness, joy and peace.

Sunday 2 December

Advent Sunday

This is the first day of the Church's new year.

Crib Blessing: Please bring along your Crib to one of the services on Advent Sunday morning so that it can be blessed before you put it up at home.

The St Mary's Travelling Crib - Posada - will start its journey after the 10.00am service, travelling from house to house around our church community. Please sign up to participate as our church crib travels from home to home each day.

  Advent Carol Service at 6.00pm
During Advent

The sermons during Advent will return to the cycle of themes linked to the traditional Advent ones of: Heaven, Hell, Death and Judgement.

Visit Follow the Star for daily Bible readings, reflection and prayer prompt as well as lovely music. You can get the daily reflections by email or through the app for iOS or Android devices.

There are also plenty of books linked to the period from Advent Sunday to Epiphany in our library at the back of the church.

Christingle serviceChristingle Service at 2.30pm

The collections from this service are donated to The Children’s Society.

Monday 10 December
Sunday 6 January 2018

9.00am - 3.30pm

A Christmas Experience

In these days when so much focus is given to the commercialisation of Christmas, it is important that we make sure that all visitors to our church get a glimpse of the reality of Christmas. Our Christmas Experience is an exhibition of scenes, each showing an important moment of the Christmas story. There will be thought-provoking information for all and fun activities for the younger visitors.

We will be arranging visits by groups of children from our school and uniformed organisations. We hope adults will drop into the church and spend some quiet time looking at the displays and reflecting on the first Christmas.

We'll be setting up on Saturday 8 December.

A Christmas Experience will run until Sunday 6 January.

Sunday 16 December

Christmas Tree of Prayer

The Christmas Tree of Prayer will be in church from 17 DecemberOur Christmas Tree of Prayer is a beautiful and poignant feature of our Christmas. The decorations on this special tree are the stars that shine as lights of hope bearing names of family, friends or situations we are thinking of at this time.

The tree will be in Church from Friday 21 December until Twelfth Night (6 January). The Church is open during daylight hours for names to be added. Everyone is invited to do so, not just members of our congregation. Feel free to spread the word about this lovely tree of prayer and hope.

Sunday 23 December

Carol Service at 6.00pm

This special traditional service of Nine Lessons & Carols is followed by mince pies and mulled wine in the Church Centre.

Monday 24 December Christmas Eve

Crib serviceCrib Service at 4.00pm

Tuesday 25 December

Christmas Day

The church will remain open throughout the day so please drop in if you would like some space for quiet contemplation.

Services through the Christmas season

Sunday 30 December

Blue Christmas

Christmas is a difficult time for some, for many different reasons. This is a quieter, more reflective service, with readings and music to offer comfort. All are welcome to come – whether for yourself, or to support another.

Tuesday 1 January

The Naming and Circumcision of Christ

It's the first day of the New Year, and we do hope to see many of you in church – even if you've also seen in the New Year! For those who wish, we shall have a New Year's Day Church Family walk (probably an amble!) around the Aquadrome, concluding with mince pies and mulled wine at The Vicarage. Please sign up in order to let Deborah know how many mince pies to make and how much wine to mull!

Sunday 6 January

Looking forward to Epiphany

The Kings will make their way into the Crib at the 10.00am service and, on one of the very few occasions in the year when we do so, we shall use incense as an additional facet of our worship.
